Office of the President of the Republic
Press release 56/2017
11 October 2017
The President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö will visit Central Finland on Wednesday 18 October 2017. Niinistö will visit both Karstula and Äänekoski.
The visit will begin in Karstula, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary. President Niinistö will inaugurate Karstula's event square and meet with citizens at 13.00. The first ideas for the square were conceptualised by students of the Aalto University and it will now become the shared living room and multipurpose centre for all the municipality's residents.
From the square President Niinistö will proceed to Honkarakenne's Karstula-based factory. The company, which supplies log houses, will celebrate its 60th year in business next year.
From Karstula, President Niinistö will head to the opening of Metsä Group's new Bioproduct Mill in Äänekoski. The mill is the largest ever investment by Finland's forestry industry and the world's first next generation bioproduct mill.
President Sauli Niinistö is to visit every region in Finland this year in honour of Finland's Centennial. The next in line will be Uusimaa and Northern Ostrobothnia. President Niinistö will also visit Åland. The programmes for each upcoming regional visit will be provided separately.
