Russian President visited Kultaranta
The Baltic Sea played a visible role during President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev's working visit to Finland on 20-21 July 2010. Talks with President of the Republic Tarja Halonen at the Kultaranta summer residence also focused on the environment and climate change, cooperation with neighbouring areas and President Halonen's upcoming state visit to Russia. In addition the Presidents took a boat trip to the island of Seili.

President Halonen to chair a UN Panel
President of the Republic Tarja Halonen has been appointed co-chair of the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability. The Panel has been established by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. President Halonen will act as chair together with President Jacob Zuma of South Africa. The Panel will address sustainable development by focusing especially on climate change. It is expected to deliver its final report at the end of 2011.
