Copyright © Office of the President of the Republic of FinlandThe European Union and the Western Balkans were important topics in the discussions held between President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and President of Slovenia Danilo Türk at the Presidential Palace. “It is important to meet with other active EU Member States. Our Old Europe is in a state of constant renewal,” President Halonen said at the event’s press conference. President Türk and his spouse were on a state visit to Finland from 8 to 10 March 2010.

The future of Nato discussed in Helsinki

The future of Nato crisis management and the organisation’s role in the international cooperation were discussed during an international seminar in Helsinki on Thurday, 4 March. The seminar is connected with the drafting of Nato’s new strategic concept. President of the Republic of Finland Tarja Halonen opened the seminar, and in her speech she reminded of the importance of coordination between military and civilian crisis management.
